In The 17 Essentials Qualities of a Team Player, John Maxwell shares a story about poor thinking:
Gene Marine, the editor of the Bellefontaine Examiner, once sent a new sports reporter to cover an important game, but when the young man returned, he didn't have a story, Marine asked why, and the reporter replied simply, "No game."
"No game? What happened?" asked Marine
"The Stadium collapsed," responded the reporter.
"Then where is the story on the stadium collapse?" asked the editor.
"That wasn't my assignment, sir," answered the reporter. The potential for a new scoop went right down the tubes because the young man's inability to think well."
Funny story, but it made me think about the way I think. Have you ever thought about the way you think? It's kind of a weird experience. Bill Hybels says, "God desires for all of us to live with mental tenacity as it pertains to our spiritual life...we have to retrain our minds thoroughly if we are going to learn how to walk in Christ." I've been wrestling with question like, What are some of the things I need to do to sharpen my thinking and help me see things from God's perspective?
We all fight mental battles, don't we? Ihave a tendency to have ragged-edged thinking at times, therefore, I'm attempting to evaluate my whole thinking process:
- What I think about?
- Where I think?
- How I think?
- What types of thinking should I be engaging in? (strategic thinking, visionary thinking, creative thinking, etc).
- What time of the day do I do my best thinking?
